Fausto Beccalossi and Claudio Farinone

The duo formed by Fausto Beccalossi and Claudio Farinone stems from the alchemy that brings together an accordionist with a predominantly jazz background and a classically trained guitarist who is an improviser at heart. Two distinct creative approaches that can merge into one another, two worlds of timbre and harmonic textures which, when they meet, give rise to a new stylistic space. The music takes shape on the basis of sonic notes; a scrapbook of auditory fragments drawn from the musical imagination of the two performers, which intersect as in a game of mirrors. At times they are clear images, sharply fixed on the stave. At other times they emerge in the process of becoming, reflected in a new light and awaiting new surprises. The interplay of timbres is decisive: on the one hand, the harmonic density and physicality of the accordion; on the other, the splashes of colour from the guitar. The two musicians move beyond the genres to which they belong, transcending boundaries and performance styles. Each of the protagonists’ past experiences serves as a starting point for new explorations, which are brought to life by encounters and cultures, crossing borders and generating new paths each time.

The duo’s music is neither classical nor jazz; it is not entirely written nor completely improvised. The choice of pieces and composers always allows room for freedom, for spontaneous invention, for variation, for pure digression. “Playing Love” is the title of their album dedicated to the great genius Ennio Morricone, which serves as a starting point for their interpretations of other pieces of music written for the cinema.
